Hull City: Lakhdar Belloumi defends son Bachir amid criticism!

After Hull City’s 1-0 defeat at Fulham, Lakhdar Belloumi spoke up in defence of his son, Mohamed El Bachir Belloumi, who has come in for criticism on social media. He praised the Tigers’ football school.

Hull City’s 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday 17 October 2026 at Craven Cottage left the Tigers empty-handed in the Premier League. It comes as Mohamed El Bachir Belloumi, the 24-year-old Algeria international right winger, faces criticism on social media. His father, Lakhdar Belloumi, a legend of Algerian football, responded the same day, according to Afrik-Foot.

In an interview with Afrik-Foot, the former Algeria international defended his son’s progress and dismissed the attacks that originated on social media. “These are people doing business on TikTok who put this out, they do it for money! I don’t know what you call them, better to forget them. Hull City is a football school. The proof is that Bachir is the example, he learned and grew there. How do you expect me to criticise them?” he said.

A setback at Craven Cottage

On the pitch, Hull City had only 20% possession against Fulham. Despite that context, Bachir Belloumi won 10 ground duels and completed 3 dribbles, according to Afrik-Foot. The defeat comes with Hull City sitting 8th in the Premier League, according to GiveMeSport.

Stats and a decisive match

Since the start of the Premier League season, the winger has made eight appearances, six of them starts, scoring three goals and providing two assists for Hull City, according to Afrik-Foot. He was also the main architect of the Tigers’ promotion to the English top flight last season.

The previous weekend, on 11 October 2026, he came off the bench against Everton to equalise in the 74th minute (2-2), before being named MVP, according to PurFootDZ. His benching against Everton, due to travel fatigue, drew mockery from Roy Keane on the Sky Sports panel, according to Foot-Algérie. Head coach Sergej Jakirović, who manages the Tigers, defended his choice at a press conference on Thursday, before the Fulham match.

With Algeria, a triumphant return

In September, he celebrated his return to the Algeria national team after three years away by scoring two goals against Burundi (2-2) and against Niger (2-1), according to Afrik-Foot.

Lakhdar Belloumi did not mince his words against his son’s detractors, without naming them, and praised Hull City, “a football school”. Hull City will host Brentford on Sunday 25 October 2026 for matchday 9 of the Premier League.
