Real Madrid: Brahim Diaz short of playing time, January exit mooted!

According to Marca and Le360 Sport, a departure for Brahim Diaz as early as the January window can no longer be ruled out. The Real Madrid and Morocco international has not played a single competitive minute since 15 September.

The matter is back at the forefront in Madrid. According to Marca, relayed by Le360 Sport, a departure for the Morocco international, either on loan or as a permanent transfer, as soon as the winter window opens can no longer be ruled out.

No official approach or contractual communication has been formalised by Real Madrid at this stage, Le360 Sport specifies. The hypothesis therefore remains a rumour, attributed to the Spanish sports daily and its Moroccan relay, and not a settled decision.

Mourinho cuts his playing time

José Mourinho, Real Madrid’s head coach, is considerably reducing the Atlas Lions forward’s playing time in favour of other attacking options, according to Le360 Sport.

The club’s thinking has also evolved. While a winter loan for a Brazilian winger was initially envisaged, Real Madrid is redirecting its exit plans towards Brahim Diaz, still according to the same source. This is not, however, a confirmed freeze-out, but a market option under consideration.

A national team issue at stake

Behind the club matter looms a personal one. The 27-year-old wants to regain regular playing time in order to preserve his key status in the Morocco shirt, Le360 Sport reports.

A loan or a transfer would meet that need for playing time. But no interested club and no fee are mentioned by the sources, and no approach has been formalised by Real Madrid at this stage.

November will tell whether talks open

The timeline of the matter is not yet set. Diaz’s performances and contractual situation in November will definitively determine whether transfer negotiations open, according to Le360 Sport.

This Sunday, 18 October 2026, Real Madrid host Sevilla FC at the Santiago Bernabéu at 21:00, on matchday 9 of La Liga. The club will have to make do without Vinicius Jr, suspended, and without Rodrygo and Mendy, both injured, according to Real Madrid official. No information suggests Brahim Diaz will come on in that game. “Sevilla are always a formidable opponent, but we want to win,” Mourinho said, quoted by the club.

Liga leaders Real have won 5 of 5 home games in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and conceding 3. The winter transfer window opens on 1 January 2027.
