MC Alger: trouble in Abeokuta, Enugu Rangers lodge CAF complaint!

Beaten 2-0 in Abeokuta, MC Alger now face a disciplinary front: Enugu Rangers have lodged a complaint with CAF after disorder involving Algerian supporters, according to Afrik-Foot. The return leg in Douera promises to be tense.

On Sunday, MC Alger went down 2-0 on the pitch at the MKO-Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, against Enugu Rangers, in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the African Champions League. A defeat that leaves the Algerian champions in difficulty ahead of the return leg.

At the final whistle, the loss sparked heated tensions inside the Nigerian ground, Afrik-Foot reports. Several hundred “Chnaoua”, supporters of the Algiers club, had made the trip to Nigeria. According to the same outlet, a section of these supporters turned on the facilities and on the club’s staff. On Monday morning, the Enugu Rangers management formally lodged a complaint with CAF.

Dressing room targeted, damage reported

According to Afrik-Foot, some of the Mouloudia fans directly tried to force their way into the Algerian dressing room. These same supporters are said to have caused significant damage to the facilities at the Abeokuta stadium. The technical and administrative staff of the Algerian champions are also said to have been directly targeted and manhandled.

These elements remain to be confirmed: the sole source for the case is Afrik-Foot, which reports them without quoting the parties concerned. The reporter Naïm Beneddra signs the account of this disorder, the exact scale of which is not established at this stage.

A disciplinary procedure at CAF

The lodging of the complaint with the Confederation of African Football by the Nigerian club is, however, confirmed: the Enugu Rangers management formally filed it on Monday morning. It opens the way to proceedings before CAF’s disciplinary jury, where MC Alger risk heavy disciplinary and financial sanctions, according to the same source.

The precise nature of these sanctions and their possible amount are not known. The case indicates that the disciplinary committee’s decision is expected at the same time as the return leg.

Douera, the first deadline

On the pitch, the Algiers club find themselves in serious sporting danger as regards qualification for the group stage of the 2026-2027 Champions League. They will have to overturn the two-goal deficit conceded in Abeokuta.

The decisive return leg is scheduled for this weekend, 24 and 25 October 2026, at the Ali-la-Pointe Stadium in Douera, Algiers. The decision of CAF’s disciplinary committee is expected at the same time.
