On loan from Stade Rennais, Moroccan striker Yassir Zabiri has 7 goals in 8 appearances for Racing Santander. His finishing is catching the eye in La Liga.
Seven goals in eight appearances: Mohamed Yassir Zabiri’s ratio in the Racing Santander shirt has not gone unnoticed in Spain. The 21-year-old Moroccan international centre-forward, born on 23 February 2005 in Marrakech, is making a big impression this season with the Cantabrian club.
On loan from Stade Rennais FC, the Ligue 1 club he joined in 2026, the player has already been through several formative stages, from Morocco to Portugal, before settling in Santander.
An already well-stocked CV
A product of the Mohammed VI Football Academy between 2015 and 2024, Yassir Zabiri made his professional debut at Union Touarga, where he played 11 games and scored 3 goals, as reported by Wikipedia.
He then announced himself in Portugal in the colours of FC Famalicão, with 7 goals in 20 appearances between 2024 and 2026. Those stats preceded his move to Stade Rennais in 2026, then his loan to Racing Santander.
With Morocco’s youth teams, the striker has scored 19 goals in 30 caps for the under-20s. He won the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2025 in Chile with the Atlas Lion Cubs, and reached the final of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations the same year in Egypt.
The metrics, handled with care
The specialist press has picked up the story. According to Afrik-Foot, his advanced metrics show a finishing and conversion rate in front of goal that exceeds the finishing standards of La Liga stars such as Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé.
The comparison does, however, need to be handled with care: it concerns a finishing efficiency ratio, not an overall level of performance. It does not allow the conclusion that the Moroccan is better than those two players, nor does it extend the reasoning to his entire game.
What remains is that the goal tally is very real, with 7 goals in 8 appearances this season.
Santander await confirmation
His market value is now estimated at €20 million according to Transfermarkt.
Racing Santander’s next La Liga matchday should provide a chance to confirm that attacking efficiency. Time will tell whether this output is sustained over the long run.
