Marseille: Amine Gouiri shares Ligue 1 scoring lead with two Malians!

With four goals, Algeria international Amine Gouiri (Olympique de Marseille) shares top spot in the Ligue 1 scoring charts with Malians Kamory Doumbia (Stade Brestois 29) and Lassine Sinayoko (Paris FC), according to Foot-Africa.com.

Three African players share the summit of the Ligue 1 scoring charts. According to Foot-Africa.com, Amine Gouiri, Kamory Doumbia and Lassine Sinayoko have four goals apiece. The Algeria international striker of Olympique de Marseille thus shares top spot with two Mali internationals: Doumbia, an attacking midfielder at Stade Brestois 29, and Sinayoko, a striker signed this summer by Paris FC from AJ Auxerre.

At 26, Gouiri has scored two braces for OM, against Strasbourg (4-0) and then against Paris FC (2-3). Doumbia found the net in each of the first three matchdays, against Le Mans (2-2) and Toulouse (2-2), then with a decisive brace against Le Havre (1-2). Sinayoko has scored four goals in Ligue 1, including a hat-trick at the Vélodrome against Marseille (2-3 win).

Gouiri, OM’s spearhead

Under the guidance of Bruno Genesio, the Olympique de Marseille coach, Amine Gouiri has established himself as the number one attacking weapon in the Marseille system, according to Foot-Africa.com. The site sums it up thus: “The Algerian remains Bruno Genesio’s number one attacking weapon.”

Doumbia and Sinayoko, the two Malians

Kamory Doumbia now has 18 goals and 12 assists in 98 matches in the Brest shirt, according to Foot-Africa.com. The Mali international attacking midfielder is also remembered for his four-goal haul scored in just 26 minutes against FC Lorient in December 2023, the same source recalls.

Lassine Sinayoko, a Mali international striker, has 30 caps and 10 goals for the Eagles of Mali. He played the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Olympique Lyonnais. According to L’Afropéen, he has one assist, like Kamory Doumbia, in addition to his four goals.

A three-way race to watch

The rest of matchday 9 in Ligue 1 this weekend should provide a long-distance duel for the scoring lead between OM, Brest and Paris FC.

For CAJ News Africa, the Mali and Algeria internationals confirm the dominance of players from French-speaking Africa in Ligue 1.
