Orlando Pirates: Moremi gives the Buccaneers an edge in Namibia!

Thanks to a goal from Tshepang Moremi, the South African attacking midfielder of Orlando Pirates, in the 75th minute, the Buccaneers won 1-0 at African Stars and took a step towards the CAF Champions League group stage.

Orlando Pirates have taken a step towards the group stage of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League. On Saturday 17 October 2026, the Buccaneers won 1-0 on the pitch of Namibian club African Stars in the first leg of the competition’s second preliminary round, according to Dailysports.

The only goal of the match was scored by Tshepang Moremi in the 75th minute. The 25-year-old South African attacking midfielder, who plays for Orlando Pirates, was decisive in this duel. He had already found the net in the previous match against TS Galaxy, confirming his fine form.

Moremi, the decisive signing

Tshepang Moremi is enjoying a fine run. Already on target against TS Galaxy, the 25-year-old winger did it again in Namibia, giving Orlando Pirates a precious away win. Signed from AmaZulu, where he had caught the eye with 9 goal contributions in a single season, according to Dailysports, he is confirming his good start with his new club.

His 75th-minute goal is the second he has scored in as many games. It is an encouraging sign for the Buccaneers’ head coach, Moroccan Abdeslam Ouaddou, who had to cope with several absences, including that of Sebelebele, as he reshuffled his starting eleven.

African Stars with their backs to the wall

With this 1-0 away win, Orlando Pirates have a substantial edge in the race for qualification for the group stage, as Dailysports points out. The reigning Betway Premiership champions return from Namibia with an advantage.

For African Stars, the task now looks tough. The Namibian club must win and score at least two goals in the return leg in South Africa, according to the same source.

Back to Soweto to seal it

The return leg is scheduled for Friday 23 or Saturday 24 October 2026 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The date is still uncertain, and it will give the Buccaneers the chance to confirm their return to the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.

The Pirates therefore go into the second leg with a one-goal lead, earned away from home, while repeated absences have forced Abdeslam Ouaddou to change his team. African Stars, for their part, will have to score at least two goals on their own pitch to hope to turn the tie around.
