Hoffenheim: Conté and Prass bring Mönchengladbach to their knees!

Bambasé Conté, Hoffenheim’s attacking midfielder, opened the scoring before Wael Mohya, 17, much coveted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, equalised for Mönchengladbach. Wing-back Alexander Prass scored the winning goal, 2-1 to the visitors.

On Sunday 18 October, Hoffenheim won 2-1 at Borussia Mönchengladbach, at the Borussia-Park, in a 17:30 kick-off (Sky Sport Germany, The Guardian).

The match came down to two names: that of Bambasé Conté, scorer of the opening goal, and that of Wael Mohya, Mönchengladbach’s young attacking midfielder, who brought his side level after the break. Wing-back Alexander Prass settled it five minutes later.

Prass involved in both goals

The scoring opened as early as the 11th minute. From an Alexander Prass pass, Bambasé Conté opened the scoring for Hoffenheim, according to Sky Sport. The 23-year-old German-Guinean, who plays for Hoffenheim, thus scores his second consecutive goal since his call-up to the Germany national team in October, The Guardian reports.

Trailing at the break, coach Alexander Blessin’s men drew level in the 49th minute: Wael Mohya equalised for Mönchengladbach, according to The Guardian and Sky Sport. The young dual-national, much coveted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, thus struck back midway through the match.

Five minutes later, in the 54th, Alexander Prass, already the provider for the first goal, scored the winning goal for Hoffenheim, according to Sky Sport and The Guardian.

Gladbach still without a point

This defeat, their sixth in six matchdays, leaves Mönchengladbach with zero points on the board, according to Sky Sport. The evening was also Blessin’s first in the Borussia-Park dugout as the club’s new head coach. In comments reported by Sky Sport Germany, he said: “I see a lot of good positive things because I see the lads every day in training, and that gives me courage. But we all know that at some point the points have to come.”

For Hoffenheim, the win ends a dismal run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions. The club climbs from 17th to 14th in the Bundesliga, with 6 points, again according to Sky Sport.

Lyon next for Hoffenheim

Hoffenheim then host Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday 22 October 2026, in the Europa League league phase.

For his part, Wael Mohya, the youngest player in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Bundesliga history according to Bild and Goal, now has two league goals in his professional career.
